Square, small and smart! The 3 "S" scarves is here!

 Small yet functional

Were you ever in need of just a tiny add-on to your outfit, a detail to your daily resemblece to make a settled statemet, an eye-catcher that is stylish but not "too loud"?

Here's THE REASON for small scarves.

They exist for this exact purpose: making you feel special!

Small square scarves.

This scarf was hand painted by me, on a small piece of silk (22 x 22 inches), with a deep blue navy shade for the tree silquette and dreamy teal - blue combo for the background.

See Thee In Blue silk scarf on Etsy HERE

This is a peacock feather. A magpie wing. This delicate yet beautifully balanced combo of colors works miracles, looking gorgeous each and every day.
A small piece of art to take with you, whenever you go.

Detailed and shiny!

Semi translucent silk makes wonders with magpie color pallette.

Just look how smooth this scarf is!

Big Comeback.

So yeah, if you ever wonder if it's possible to forget about something for 3 years... Yeah, that's what happened here!

I got swamped with social media tasks and kinda drifted away from blogging!

The good news is I've got A TON of new scarves to share with you!

Forget Me Not silk scarf

Oh, this is one of my all-time favorites! It's big (180 by 60 centimeters) and soooo bluueeeeeee—it's just blue in a sea of blue-ness. Blue-madness!

Soft and see-through, a 100% natural silk

Front and back of the scarf are the same: the beauty of hand painted silk!

Close up for the Forget Me Not scarf: flowers are really big!

See how delicate and light the Habotai silk is!

The only issue I've got with this scarf, is that it takes at least 3 days to paint... while I can't move the easel from my table, it's too big.
And here's the answer to your question: why I am back today?

Well, the next Forget Me Not scarf is on my table, drying. And I'm waiting for an opportunity to paint the details once the paints are dry enough to work with!

The Forget Me Not scarf can be order on Etsy - at my MinkuLUL silk scarf shop here!

Tit Birds scarfs - which one do YOU like?

Painting Birds.

I love painting birds, and tits are so adorable that I can not stop working on tit-themed scarfs!
I'm testing new ways of painting now, trying to decide if I like them better with white outline or with additional black lineart.

Tit Birds With Red Berries neck scarf

This one is slim, with fiery red berries. I re-painted it recently, so I have some new photos.

Tit Birds On Blue

Re-painted last month. I like how subtle the color set is.

Tit Birds in Blue - subtle and blue, very very blue :)

Tit Birds On White (my favorite!)

It took a lot of work, to paint black outline on such a bright background (very tiny and very dry brush painted extremely slowly) but the effect is almost comic-like.
Tit Birds In Snow on Etsy - my favorite!

Silky touch: lightweight and semi - transparent. Tit Birds In Snow

How do you like my designs?

Painting stars on silk ... with milky way! *yumm*

The Star silk scarf

This scarf with constellations (really real, done them over a night sky chart!) and Milky Way galaxy was done as a special request on a pure silk in size 49 x 11 inches.

How the scarf came to be?

I love doing commissions! My customers always find themes or color sets that I would not think on my own, so it's really the best way to put your creativity and skills to the limit.

One of the first sketches, rough and quick but it spoke to my lovely customer!

We started with a few sketches, then we tried different colors and then... yup, I was facing the constellation map on my screen and later on a paper. I had to meticulously place each and every star of the zodiac signs to their rightful spot. It was a slow- going process, but totally worth the time!

Ready to see more photos?

Here they are! Note how the scarf is almost non transparent, but there's a delicacy and vibrancy of the pure silk. Oh, my favorite medium of all!

Tit Birds scarf hand painted for the Christmas!

The Tit Birds scarf

Don't you just love them? They are like little fluttering ray of sunshine on a gloomy winter day.
I was asked to paint a Tit Birds scarf and here's how it turned out!
Tit Birds silk scarf by MinkuLUL
I added some red berries to spice up the color set for this scarves. I like all blue scarfs, but a dash of yellow and a bit of red makes it pop (I hope!)

Art Nouveau on scarfs - Jugendstil creations

Art Nouveau - my favorite style

In polish we call it secession,  meaning 'leaving the old behind' - so true! This is an art of nature, flowering ornamentation, asymmetric and pure beauty.
We had many wonderful artists creating in this amazing style, and Stanislaw Wyspianski and Alphonse Mucha are my absolute idols.
S. Wyspiański Iris flowers
Art Nouveau art is my source of inspiration, and sometimes I use it as a reference or even a base for my silk paints design. I love transferring Alphonse Mucha masterpieces into wearables!

From sketch to scarf - creation proces!

Working with customers

This is probably the best thing about my job - silk painter - I am creating wearable art for ppl from around the world. I mean it! I had my scarfs sent to USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Brazil, RSA, China, Russia, all of the UE countries and so on and I appreciate every order I get. But sometimes the fun begins one step before painting. Sometimes I get to work with my customer on a custom scarf.
It is amazing, to have your ideas talked over with someone living in the other side of the globe. I am sitting here, in cold Cracow and there is someone thousand miles away, creating with me.

The Peacock Feathers scarf - custom order

Peacock silk scarf - on ETSY here!

It started with an Etsy message.
Nice lady inquired about a custom scarf for her mother. We decided on a size, silk type, an inspiration and color set, so I could present her with first sketches.

VERY rough sketches for the Peacock Feathers silk scarf - colored pencils

She chose one of the designs and told me what needs to be worked on. Based on her ideas I drawn bigger, more detail sketch.

We talk a bit more about colors. It was vital to my customer that the scarf will be vivid.

Once the design was accepted, I started painting.

Painting the custom order

It all begins with a gutta outline. The Peacock scarf is so big, that it took all of my studio!
It's me, MinkuLUL with the Peacock Feathers scarf

Here you can see half painted scarf. It has to be ironed, washed, put on stencils one more time and... yes, painted again, so the outline will be colorful. It enriches the design if you use colors instead of just leaving it white.
Huh, half done!

So here it is! Ta-da!

As Sheldon from BBT says "Short form of Ta-ta-da-da!"
