Here be Dragons! On silk!

Dragons on silk scarfs

Hello everybody! Today, I wanted to share with you my designs with dragons. I worked on the series for some time now and I must say painting mystical creatures gives me a lot of joy... but for some reason dragons seem to be the most popular among my customers.

A lot of details! A lot of scales. I really like the color set, and how it changes depending on the time of the day and type of light. Sometimes it looks blue - red, sometimes turquoise - orange. Funny! Almost like the dragons were actually alive!

Dragons In Love

This one is ready to go! Two dragons facing each other with two types of wings: one is angelic and the other is demonic. How do you like it?

How about this color set? Dragons should be green, right?  I rarely paint on square scarf, but this feel like a perfect fit, does it not?

Red again! I recently purchased most vivid red paint so I'm on a red-painting spree! I was planning to paint scales for a long time and this seems to be the perfect color for it!

By the way, do you know there's a legend about a dragon that lived in a cave under the kings castle in my hometown? Really!
You can visit the cave now (it's officially called the Dragon Cave) and you can see the monument of the dragon... which actually breaths fire! For some time there was a special number you could sent a SMS to from your phone to make him breathe fire and it costed like 1 Euro. It was crazy fun!

Dancing Dragons on silk scarf so you can take them anywhere you go!

The Dancing Dragons silk scarf

This silk scarf was painted... well, on a whim, really! I just wanted so badly to make it and the design finally became crystal clear in my mind, so I took a week of my normal chores and painted it!

That's me: Minkulul, with the Dancing Dragons silk scarf!
Here we go with some more pictures. Those were taken at my studio, so inside. Can you tell how silk shimmers and how it can change its tones and shades? This is so amazing to see this transformation: depend on the light type, you have a bit different scarf every time!
Hand painted silk scarf Dragon Dance is on Etsy now!

And here we have some pictures from the painting process. As I said, this one took me A WEEK!Why? Well, can you see all the scales on both dragons? Yay, it was almost like meditation with a brush!

Poppies and Firebird: from design to painted scarves!

The Poppies and Firebird silk scarves

My latest creation in MinkuLUL shop, the commissioned scarf size 34 x 34 inches.

Silk scarves Poppies and Firebird on ETSY
I have painted it with a Setasilk silk paints, to get the most vivid red there is! (I think this red is even more intense that the one I have from acrylic... not to mention watercolors... this is THE RED!!)

The beginning... a design!

I had a pleasure to work with a great lady from US, who wanted a red and gold scarf with flowers and Art Nouveau touch. We e-mailed a bit about the size and ideas, then I created 3 pictures for her to choose from.

We e-mailed a bit more and so the final version was created!

I am drawing the designs with colored pencils... taking pictures with my phone did a nasty number on the quality and colors... thankfully I have my camera back!

The silk painting - all the fun!

While painting - Setasilk silk paints are amazing!

I am wondering, is "scarf" rectangle and long, and "scarves" square?
Hm.... or just two words for the same thing?

Fox scarf and getting out of your comfort zone - art style!

Comfort zone sometimes has to be broken!

I had lovely summer, painting in the garden, doing what I love the most: watercolor style, Art Nouveau style, lots of flowers.

Yay, painted the Iris scarf in the garden in the country side!

Here we go!

Now, back in town, I decided it's time to do something spontaneous and different!

It's essential for painters to push their limits, experiment and find new ways for expressing themselves. I did that painting a Fox scarf.

This design is quite unusual for me.
First, the color set: red, crimson, a bit of orange and gray.
Then, the composition: I tried to simplify Japanese landscape; no ornaments, no - as my art teacher used to say - no unnecessary "chatter".

Simple lines, two foxes and strong colors - that was the trick! Hope you will like it!

Oh, btw. if you are experiencing an art-block, there's no better way to get out of it, than get out of the comfort zone with your creations!

Peacock hand painted silk scarf - the second day of painting!

The Peacock scarf is one of my most time consuming scarfs, but I really love painting it :) The yellow - blue color set is my favorite.

Here's the second day of painting! Enjoy!

The scarf is placed on the stencil after the gutta was removed. In the background you can see also my 'White Tree of Gondor' hand painted silk scarf.

You can see that the peacock's head is once again protected by a new layer of gutta, to leave it's outline white. All the other white lines will be painted blue or yellow!

Some of the lines are already painted! Can you see the difference? Adding an opposite color (turquoise) to the gold color set I try to make them 'sparkle' and vibrant!

The close-up. Oh, this is TIMECONSUMING! Thank's God for the radio...!

And now for the blue half of the scarf, it get's yellow outline.

If you wish to see the previous stages for painting the Peacock scarf go to my blog post here!

Ready to go scarfs - 21th of July

I love creating new designs and new scarfs, but sometimes I need to slow a bit in creating process and just practice my manual skills.

I took this week of designing and focused on painting! This gives me such a joy :)

Here are some of this week READY TO GO silk scarfs on Etsy:

If you find something that you especially like, rest assured that the scarf will be sent to you in 24 hours :)
Most of my scarfs are still made to order, which takes me from 3 to 5 days, depending on the complicity of the design.
If you wish me to design something special for you, let me know!

Free world - wide shippign everyone!

I am back after very intense six months... there were weddings, there was A LOT of work and painting... oh very good time indeed!

I will add some of my new works here now, just to make you wanna visit my shop on ETSY with 75 silk scarfs!! Yesssss 75... when did it happened?

Free world wide shipping till 20th of July. yeah, it's called Christmas in July on ETSY

And here's the newest scarf 'Poppies' - hand painted silk scarf with red and pink poppies.

This 'Poppies' scarf was painted as a gift for my friend... she was going to a great music festival (classical music in Wieliczka city in Poland) so I am very honored that she had chosen this scarf as a part of her outfit. She did inspire me to paint poppies one more time. I am sooo grateful for her inspiration (and for the yummiest raspberries she brought from her garden).
